DESCRIPTION: Luca Madrassi (Italian, 1848-1919) Jeune Couple ("Young Couple") bronze sculpture with brown patina finish. Signed "L. Madrassi" on base. Luca Madrassi was an Italian-born French artist best known for his bronze Art Nouveau sculptures of mythological, allegorical, and rustic figures. His work was influenced by the famed French illustrator and sculptor Gustave Dore. Born in 1848 in Italy, he went on to study under Pierre-Jules Cavelier at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later worked in the studio of Dore. Madrassi exhibited at the Salon de la Societe des Artistes Francais from 1879 on, becoming a French citizen in 1890. The artist died in 1919 in Paris, France. Luca Madrassi, Mädchenbüste um 1900, signiert mit Ortsangabe Paris, ungemarkt, Terrakotta, Bruststück einer jungen Frau mit angedeuteter Bluse und Pelzkragen, ihr lockiges Haar von einem Spitzhut mit Blüten- und Federnbesatz verdeckt, auf profiliertem geschwärzten Holzsockel, dieser trocknungsrissig und Unterseite der Hutkrempen rückseitig gechipt, sonst guter, fachmännisch restaurierter Zustand, H 42,5 cm. Künstlerinfo: französischer Bildhauer mit italienischen Wurzeln (1848 Tricesimo - 1919 Paris), studierte Kunst in Rom, dann in Paris an der École des Beaux-Arts unter Pierre-Jules Cavelier, trat dem Atelier Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse und später dem Studio Gustave Doré bei, ab 1890 französische Staatsbürgerschaft, stellte im Salon der Société des artistes français aus.
