    Trevor Makinson,  British 1926–1992 -  The Collins;  oil on panel, signed and title on the reverse 'Trevor Makinson The Collins', 21.5 x 28.5 cm (ARR)  Note:  Collins' was a music hall in Islington that opened in 1863 and this scene is highly reminiscent of Walter Sickert's 'Noctes ambrosianae' now in Nottingham City Museums & Galleries, with its depiction of a theatre audience in a somber palette. Numerous works by the artist are now in UK museums, including the Potteries Museum, Hereford Museums & Galleries and Salford Museum & Art Gallery.

He left these boots behind him: they had previously been hundreds of miles through Belgium and returned home via Dunkirk." ++Restored in 2003 with some retouching, signature and date strengthened and revarnished

    TREVOR MAKINSON B.1926 A GLASGOW BRIDGE signed and dated '51' l.r.; oil on board 31cm x 36; 12 1/4in x 14 1/4 Trevor Makinson is a painter and teacher, born in Southport, Lancashire. He attended Hereford School of Art and Slade School of Fine Art. Went on to lecture at Glasgow's School of Art and the University. Professor Makinson, who was a member of the Glasgow Art Club, showed in mixed exhibitons at RA, RP, RSA, UA and elsewhere. He had strong connections with Hereford, being a member of the Farmer's Club there, showing with Herefordshire Arts and Crafts and Wye Valley Art Society and having a series of solo shows at Hereford Art Gallery from 1944; it holds his work. There were other one-man shows in the provinces. Public galleries in Buxton, Glasgow, Newport, Salford and elsewhere hold examples. Lived in Glasgow.
