    Around 1900. Bronze, golden brown patinated. Figure: H. 48 cm, marble base: H. 3 cm. Signed L. Manzel. Slight traces of oxidation, attachment to the base loose. The female figure of the 'Sedina', shouldering a sail and holding a ship's anchor, embodies the city of Stettin. As a large sculpture, it was part of the so-called 'Manzelbrunnen', a monumental fountain in Stettin on the square in front of the New Town Hall, which was melted down in 1942 for armament purposes - German sculptor, trained at the Berlin Academy of Art under Albert Wolff and Fritz Schaper, after a longer stay in Paris from 1889 in his own studio in Berlin, received numerous commissions in the public sphere through his friendship with Kaiser Wilhelm II. Vollplastische Statuette einer Feldarbeiterin mit Rechen und Wasserkrug auf dem Heimweg. 1894 zeigte Manzel das Gipsmodell auf der Großen Berliner Kunstausstellung, 1895 folgte die Marmorstatue in der Dresdener Akademie-Ausstellung (von der Berliner Nationalgalerie erworben), 1896 die Bronze in der Berliner Akademie-Ausstellung. Bronze-H. 27,8 cm. Ges.-H. 37 cm. Dark brown patinated bronze. Signed, cast by Gladenbeck, Berlin (inscribed). Red marble base.
