Marceau (Marcel) Autograph letter signed ('Marcel Marceau') on illustrated personal stationery, to a friend, Elspeth, reading "Excuse one answer so late but I am touring all the time through the world. When you will receive this letter, we shall be in Mexico, then Japan and South America. We played in Paris with a whole mime company: The Overcoat by N. Gogol. Now I am touring with my one-man show, assistants and technicians. I do hope to come with the new show in London next year, maybe June '95. It is time to come back. I am sad about what happened to you, waiting to go to Nepal, and to hear about the death of Anne de Polignac. I know that we are still fighting with great courage for art in a time where there are so many financial problems, but it always ...if the medias (TV and so on) make of it a recession business. There has always been misery and fortune side by side. It is like life and death, good and evil - let us live for enlightenment, it is important in that dark world and wide (Milton)", with original black ink sketches, eight pages, light folding marks, tall 4to, 32 Rue de Londres [1994].

Marceau was born as the son of two Jews, and when World War Two broke out, the family escaped to Limoges. His father was captured and deported to Auschwitz in 1944, and was murdered there. His mother survived. Marceau performed all over the world to distribute the 'art of silence'. MARCEAU MARCEL: (1923-2007) French mime Artist and Actor. Marceau is best known for his stage character Bip the Clown. Marceau performed for over 60 years, referring to mime as ''the Art of Silence''. A good signed and inscribed 5 x 7 photograph by Marceau, the attractive shot depicting the French mime artist performing, in costume, in a half length amusing pose. Signed and inscribed in bold black ink to clear areas of the image `..With all my heart - Marcel Marceau.´ Marceau has also added to the lower white border his mime stage persona `Bip´, drawing alongside a flower, and adding the date 1984 in his hand. Very small minor age wear, otherwise about VG Marceau, born Marcel Mangel, as a Jewish youth, lived hiding and worked with the French Resistance during WWII. He gave his first major performance in 1944, to 3000 soldiers after the liberation of Paris. Marceau was a close friend of Michael Jackson who confessed he used some of Marceau´s techniques in his own dance steps.
