At the age of 16, the artist Marino Marini enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence to study painting and sculpture. While he concentrated on sculpture after he graduated, the artist Marino Marini also produced a significant number of paintings and graphic art pieces over the course of his career.
Marini’s talent is credited with breathing new life into the pre-WWII Italian sculpting scene. Drawing on Renaissance and ancient Etruscan styles and techniques, Marino Marini's sculptures began making an impact in the late 1920s. Marini is probably best remembered for his equestrian-themed sculptures, with his most famous piece being
The Angel of the City.
