    100x185 mm, ceruza, pasztellkréta, jelezve jobbra lent. A kép Mednyánszky szinte megszámlálhatatlan háborús képeinek egyik éppen békés tájképe. Készült 1914-1916 között. „Mednyánszky pedig így írt erről Malonyaynak, első monográfusának, egyik levelében: „A rajzok nagy tömegben készülnek, kissé lassan megy a dolog, mert nagyobb csoportokban járunk, s egy a természet előtt elkészítendő rajzra alig jut 10-12 perc.” Mednyánszky minél több mozgalmas akciót, drámát szeretett volna látni, azonban igazi harctéri pillanatok csak ritkán jutottak neki. Az utánpótlással együtt mozogva a leggyakrabban vonuló foglyok és trének, fogolytábor, sorakozó, illetve a harcok környezetében fekvő természeti és építészeti motívumok kerülhettek elé mint megörökítendő témák, motívumok.”/ifj. H. 29,5 cm - L. 19 cm (à vue) Au verso du papier, une série de croquis au crayon et le numéro « 6488 ». « La culture occidentale, et plus particulièrement la culture française, a joué en effet un rôle majeur dans la formation et l'épanouissement de l'art moderne hongrois à la fin du XIXe et au début du XXe siècle. C'est à cette période charnière de l'histoire de l'art européen qu'émergent, en réaction contre l'enseignement académique, les premières écoles artistiques nationales prônant alors une pédagogie moderne et ouverte aux expériences occidentales. L'une de ces plus célèbres écoles est celle de Nagybánya (actuelle Roumanie) qui a pour principal chef de file Károly Ferenczy dont l'art allie savamment la tradition naturaliste de son maître Simon Hollósy aux innovations de l'impressionnisme français. Délaissant les académies de Vienne et de Munich, les jeunes artistes hongrois ont alors les yeux résolument tournés vers Paris. Lié au groupe des Nabis pendant son séjour en France, József Rippl-Rónai introduit dès son retour en Hongrie l'élégance raffinée du symbolisme et de l'Art Nouveau. Ces années 1900 voient se multiplier, à Budapest, d'importantes expositions qui révèlent au public hongrois les plus grands maîtres de l'art français contemporain, de Manet à Van Gogh, en passant par Degas, Seurat, Matisse, Cézanne et Gauguin. Dès lors, les artistes hongrois se partagent entre Paris, où ils étudient pendant l'hiver, tout en participant aux salons les plus avant-gardistes - le Salon d'Automne et celui des Indépendants -, Nagybánya et Budapest où ils peignent et exposent pendant l'été et l'automne. […] Si l'influence de Matisse est surtout perceptible dans la représentation des nus et dans les vues, aux épais empâtements et aux couleurs vives, du village et des environs de Nagybánya, celle de Cézanne prévaut en revanche davantage dans les natures mortes et dans certains portraits. Aussi, le fauvisme hongrois, loin d'être une pâle transcription de la mouvance française, apparaît-il bien davantage comme une savante et complexe synthèse entre l'expressivité de la couleur matissienne et la rigueur de la plasticité cézanienne et déjà cubisante. D'ailleurs, ces Fauves hongrois ne se sont jamais définis comme un groupe sous cette appellation, employée aujourd'hui par commodité et par analogie avec les autres tendances du fauvisme européen. Ils sont plutôt des artistes aux personnalités individuelles et singulières mais partageant le même esprit moderne et les mêmes idéaux radicaux dans leur conception de la peinture. » Extrait de l'article de Sophie Barthélémy dans « Pan ! Cet article fait suite à l'exposition itinérante : « Fauves hongrois : 1904-1914 », qui eut lieu au Musée d'art moderne de Céret du 21 juin au 12 octobre 2008, au Musée départemental Matisse du Cateau-Cambrésis du 25 octobre 2008 au 22 février 2009, au Musée des beaux-arts de Dijon du 13 mars au 15 juin 2009 organisée sur le modèle de l'exposition « Fauves hongrois. De Paris à Nagybánya 1904-1914) présentée à la Galerie hongroise de Budapest du 21 mars au 20 août 2006.
