    Jun. 11, 2024

SERGE MENDJISKY (Paris, 1929 - 2017). "La Route d'Alsace", 1961. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Attached certificate of authenticity.

    Est: €6,000 - €8,000

SERGE MENDJISKY (Paris, 1929 - 2017). "La Route d'Alsace", 1961. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Attached certificate of authenticity. Measurements: 33 x 55 cm, 50.5 x 72 cm (frame). Serge Mendjisky presents two clear styles of painting, one of longer brushstroke and impressionist with vivid and primary colors, and a second style totally pointillist. The work in question belongs to Serge Mendjinsky's impressionist style, depicting a singular landscape of the Alsace Route that captivates the eye with its vibrant expression and unique composition. This artist, rooted in the distinguished School of Paris, introduces us to a visual journey that evokes the very essence of the region. The overflowing colors employed by Mendjinsky are a distinctive feature of his style. The vibrant palette, full of intense hues, brings a palpable sense of energy to the composition. This chromatic choice highlights the joy and vitality of the landscape, drawing the viewer into a rich and stimulating visual experience. In the center of the painting, a skillfully traced path unfolds, which acts as the driving axis of the work. The visual language employed by Mendjinsky clearly reveals the influence of Cubism in his work. Geometric forms intertwine in a visual dance. Serge Mendjisky was born in 1929 in Paris. His father, Maurice Mendjisky, was a painter at the Ecole de Paris, so Serge knew the world of the arts from his childhood. After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Paris, he quickly became a recognized artist and exhibited in Europe, Japan and the United States. He already uses photography to carry out his preliminary studies in painting. By decomposing and recomposing the skylines of some of the world's most famous cities, such as New York and Paris, Serge Mendjisky creates new urban landscapes that question our perceptive faculties. Volumes, lights and colors create different visual rhythms that establish new relationships between Time and Space. Through Serge Mendjisky's creative lens, Broadway becomes an explosion of multicolored lights, while New York's "Down Town" dances poetically to the sound of a cello. Recognizable cityscapes are redefined and their reformulated reality becomes three-dimensional. Serge Mendjisky's work is represented in public and private collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow. Certificate of authenticity attached.

SERGE MENDJISKY (Paris, 1929 - 2017). "Bridge of the celestines", 1990. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Certificate of authenticity attached.

SERGE MENDJISKY (Paris, 1929 - 2017). "Bridge of the celestines", 1990. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Certificate of authenticity attached. Measurements: 19 x 27 cm, 35 x 44 cm (frame). Serge Mendjisky presents two clear styles of painting, one of longer brushstroke and impressionist with bright and primary colors, and a second style totally pointillist, as is the case of this particular work. Although Pointillism is recognized as an extension of Impressionism, it differs from Impressionism in its approach to shapes and volumes. In Pointillism, forms are conceived through a geometry of pure masses, resulting in paintings that perfectly exemplify order and clarity. Through the application of minute brushstrokes in the form of dots, the accumulation of a wide range of colors and tonalities is achieved, even in areas of reduced dimensions. Each of these dots corresponds to a specific element that contributes to the appearance of the object. At a given distance, these tiny particles merge optically, generating a chromatic intensity much greater than any combination of pigments. In this sense, the artist's studies of light and color surpass those made by the Impressionists, although they also face significant challenges. With greater knowledge and a more disciplined eye, he succeeds in discerning all the hallmarks of the light spectrum, as well as developing a method for brightening or darkening a specific hue in relation to the simultaneous hallmarks created by the surrounding colors.
