    Est: $300 - $500

Signed upper right in pencil. This is one of 14 Jazz Age illustrations by Fred Meyer. The photos were executed in gouache; a water-based paint that is modified to make it opaque. Fred Meyer was part of the "Arena Group". The Arena Art Group was founded as the "Arena Group" in 1951 by a group of artists who met at the old Arena Theater on Holtzer Street in Rochester, NY. The Arena Group was the first artist's group in Rochester to promote the work of contemporary artists emerging in the 1950's. Since that time the Arena Group has showcased the work of many of the region's most respected and accomplished artists. The name has since been changed to the "Arena Art Group" to avoid confusion with other organizations in the area. The Group continues to promote contemporary artists creating non-traditional and experimental works in the visual arts. Here are some members in the 1970's: Hilda Altschule, Milford Apetz, Eric Bellman, Stephanie Cole, Robert Cole, Alfonsis Dargis, Elizabeth King Durand, Silvia Davis, Dorothy Glaser, Hass, Robert Heischman, Leo Kaplan, Fran Kende, Lola Konraty, Matott, Fred Meyer, Ed Miller, Mary Orwen, Alberto Robbins, Dorothy Salo, Mary Ann Scarborough, Schilling, Judith Stein, Kay Stowell, Sabra Richards, Judd Williams, Franz Wildenhaim, Lili Wildenhain, Al Wilson, Ann Coffee Zinker.
