Auction Date: Sep 25, 2015
Estimate: $300 - $500
Description: Signed lower right, titled 'Mudge's Farm' lower left, image size 9.75 x 14, frame measures 17 x 21 inches, unknown low number edition. Anne Michalov was born in a small mining town in Grundy County Illinois. She made it from there to the Art Institute of Chicago where she studied in the 1920s. During the 1930s she exhibited in shows around Chicago and the upper Midwest and was granted work and commissions under the Federal Art Project. As a WPA artist she produced prints, at least one mural and, after relocating to Spokane, Washington with her husband in the early 1940s, taught at the WPA Art Center there. She was fortunate to be a part of the WPA. Few women artists found work in the Federal Art Project. At its height in 1938, only 13.5% of WPA employees were women. Very good clean condition. Not laid down, acid free archival matting and framing.
