Biography

Born in New York, painter Milton Avery moved to Connecticut where he began brief art studies at both the Connecticut League of Art Students and Hartford's School of the Art Society, but he was mostly self taught. Milton Avery art often featured his daughter March, and was painted using bright vibrant colors to create soft facial contours. The first exhibition of Milton Avery art was held In 1927, and the artist's subjects consisted of landscapes, still-life, and figures done in abstract-expressionist style.

A majority of the Milton Avery abstract paintings for sale today, particularly the landscapes and still-life subjects, were painted on scene. In 1949 Avery fell ill and was unable to paint outside any longer, so he began painting in his studio.
