She came from humble beginnings in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and over the next 20 years she and her family traveled around America, from Florida to Texas, finally settling in Georgia.

In each state she continued to work on the techniques Barbara Mock's paintings and prints are known for; in particular she developed her unique laced oil painting style while studying under various noted artists such as Richard Goetz and Naomi Brotherton.
