Sheldon Moldoff and Joe Giella Batman #164 Splash Page, Original Art (DC, 1964). There is nothing quite like an early "Silver Age DC" Batman title page by supreme penciler and acclaimed 1950's Bat-artist, "Shelly" Moldoff, who was Bob Kane'sfirst assistant on the Batman title. This great splash page is from Batman #164, June 1964, from the story titled "Two-Way Gem Caper!" with Batman and Robin. Ink over graphite, with an overall image area of 13" x 18", including paste-upheader. Moldoff has signed the lower right at Bob Kane, however the center of the page is hand signed and inscribed by Bob Kane...."To My Friends - Cindy-Mitchell and Craig, From Batman and Robin.....Bob Kane". Page has mild toning, someedge and corner wear, marginal spots of soiling/stains. Wonderful Piece!!

Giclée on canvas USA, circa 1990 Sheldon ‘Shelly’ Moldoff (1920- 2012)—American comic book artist Bob Kane (1915- 1998)— American comic book artist Signed lower left Limited Edition AP 2/10 Dimensions with frame: 23 x 33 in. (58.4 x 83.8 cm.) Excellent Condition Estimate: $400 A stirring limited edition impression of the iconic Detective Comics #31 signed by Shelly Moldoff and replete with affixed Batman crest signed by Bob Kane. A reproduction of the 1939 Detective Comic featuring the omniscient Batman towering over the evil Monk. Signed by Shelly Moldoff, one of Bob Kane's primary "ghost artists" (uncredited collaborators) on the superhero Batman. He co-created the Batman supervillains Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, the second Clayface, and Bat-Mite, as well as the original heroes Bat-Girl, Batwoman, and Ace the Bat-Hound. Also features a unique Batman symbol with a crisp signature of creator, Bob Kane. Framed and matted with a batman logo signed by Bob Kane. Bob Kane (American, 1915 -1998) An early contributor to the genre, the precocious Kane (nee Kahn) burst into the world of comics in 1936 after publishing his own book. Before long, as a result of public response to the Superman comics, the demand for more superhero characters and stories led him to join National Publications (now DC Comics). There he created the improbably winged “Birdman”, a simply-masked hero meting out justice in a series of marginally successful yet uninspired stories. It was writer Bill Finger who counseled his young protégé by suggesting there was potential in his concept if he adopted a few broad changes; the introduction of a threatening cowl, a long and sinuous cape to replace the wings, a costume palette of dark, rich tone, and a pair of elbow-length gloves to accent the menace. To aid in the transition, Finger wrote the first installment but, as often happens, since Kane had already submitted the concept to editors, Finger is a forgotten figure in the landscape of super-hero history. Kane eventually signed-away any financial ownership of the Batman character in exchange for a requisite credit byline in perpetuity. Kane’s work contributed to the defining contemporary trend of heroes imbued with complex personalities and story arcs that progressed over years. His style also evolved with the times, becoming more refined and less mannered. Although in his later life he concentrated on fine art painting, it was his Batman creation that secured his place in popular culture. He died in 1998 and is buried in Forrest Lawn cemetery in Los Angeles. Condition The work is in excellent, like new condition Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
