"KIVITELRE ENGEDELYEZVE MNG" (permitted to export, Hungarian National Gallery) hand-stamp on upper right of verso. A monumental landscape painting by nineteenth century Hungarian master Jozsef Molnar. This picturesque composition features a charming group of cattle grazing on the grass amidst evergreens and white boulders in the foreground before a serene lake framed by Molnar's beloved High Tatras mountains, replete with cascading waterfalls, and sublime cloud formations in the skies beyond. All is delineated in Molnar's signature style which blended the harmonious sensibility of Biedermeier painting with the wild dramatic tendencies of Romanticism, rendered with his delicate color palette and keen eye for realistic details. A very rare find by Jozsef Molnar, mounted in an attractive custom frame. Size (sight view): 55.75" L x 45.25" W (141.6 cm x 114.9 cm) Size (frame): 63.25" L x 53" W (160.7 cm x 134.6 cm) About the Artist: Jozsef Molnar was born in Zsambek, Hungary and studied in Venice, Rome, and Munich before establishing himself in Stuttgart. Molnar returned to Hungary in 1853 and painted landscapes and history paintings in Pest. His "The Self-Sacrifice of Knight Dezso" (1855) was a particularly important Hungarian history painting, and Molnar's painting titled "Shipwrecked" (1854)inspired by the work of Gericault is regarded as one of his best. Following his "The Recapture of Buda Castle in 1686" (1885) most of Molnar's paintings were landscape and genre paintings. József Molnar, Frauenakt, in die Ferne schauend, (Quellnymphe), Ölgemälde von 1865, im Originalrahmen József Molnar, 1821 Zsámbék, Kaisertum Österreich - 1899 in Budapest, ungarischer Porträt-, Landschafts-, Genre- und Historienmaler. Nach dem Besuch der Lénárd Landau Pester Zeichenschule studierte er seit 1837 an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien. Im Jahre 1844 kam er nach Venedig, wo er mit der finanziellen Unterstützung eines Mäzens Student der Akademie der Bildenden Künste wurde. 1845 besuchte er Rom, Neapel und Pisa. Ab 1847 studierte Molnár an der Königlichen Akademie der Künste in München. 1848 ließ sich Molnár in Stuttgart nieder, wo er bald als Porträtmaler bekannt wurde. Er porträtierte u. a. den König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg; hier: In einer mit Pflanzen bewachsenen, dunklen Felsgrotte schaut ein hell erleuchteter Frauenakt in die Ferne, Öl/Lw, 68 x 58 cm, kleiner (ca 0,5cm) Lwd.schaden im rechten Oberschenkel, verso sign. o. bez. "Molnar Jozsef fecit 1865", im originalen Goldstuckrahmen
