Im Hintergrund ist ein hölzerner Palisadenzaun erkennbar, der die Grenze bildet und von preußischen Linientruppen bewacht wird, welche die polnischen Militärs nach Westen durchziehen lassen. Das liberale und republikanische Europa schaute damals voller Mitleid auf den vergeblichen polnischen Freiheitskrieg und begeisterte sich für die polnischen Freiheitshelden.
