An original 1874 etching by American artist Peter Moran, titled Cattle at the Water's Edge. This delicately executed pastoral scene features a group of cattle gathered at a quiet stream, framed by dense foliage and reflective water. Moran's expert linework and textural precision capture the tranquility of the natural setting, underscoring his mastery in animal portraiture and landscape etching. Peter Moran, the youngest of the famed Moran family of artists, was born in Bolton, England, and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1844. While often overshadowed by his brothers Thomas and Edward Moran, Peter established his own reputation as one of America's finest etchers of the 19th century. He specialized in depictions of livestock and rural life, often informed by his own experiences traveling and sketching the American countryside. His etchings were celebrated for their naturalism and quiet dignity, contributing to the American Etching Revival of the 1870s. The print is signed and dated in the plate, upper right, as P.
