Der Tod der Lucrezia. Clairobscur-Holzschnitt in Grau. 27,2 x 32,7 cm. 1612. Hollstein 1 III. Der Utrechter Bildnis- und Historienmaler Paulus Moreelse hinterließ ein recht kleines, lediglich vier Blatt zählendes druckgraphisches Werk, darunter zwei Clairobscur-Holzschnitte, die in einem manieristischen Idiom behandelt sind. Hendrick Goltzius hatte die Technik in den 1580er und 1590er Jahren in Haarlem zu einer neuen Blüte gebracht und auch der ebenfalls aus Utrecht stammende Abraham Bloemaert beschäftigte sich intensiv mit diesem Medium. Die Darstellung des Selbstmordes der Lucrezia ist von einem großen inneren Pathos erfüllt. Die tugendhafte Heldin liegt entseelt darnieder, nachdem sie sich den tödlichen Dolchstoß versetzt hat. Ihr Sessel ist umgestürzt, eine alte Dienerin eilt in Panik herbei. Trotz der Dramatik des Vorgangs ist die Szene mit einer fast manieristischen Eleganz und Leichtigkeit behandelt. Der Holzschnitt ist selten, zumal der vorliegende ganz ausgezeichnete Abzug vorzüglich und vollständig erhalten ist, mit dem Schriftrand in Blockdruck, der auf vielen bekannten Exemplaren beschnitten ist. - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

Vor einer kannelierten Säule mit hellgrünem textilen Behang die Darstellung der an einem Tisch sitzenden Heiligen Maria nebst ihrem Kind, welches auf einem roten quastenbesetzten Kissen Platz genommen hat und seine Hand hinausreicht zu dem Johannesknaben, welcher mit dem Agnus Dei im Begriff ist, sich zu nähern. Hinter Maria ihre Mutter Anna. Besonders in der Bewegung des Christuskindes, auf dem Kissen sitzend, erinnert das vorliegende Gemälde an ein von Paulus Moreelse signiertes Gemälde von 1621, welches Sophia Hedwig von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel mit ihren Kindern zeigt und im Nationalmuseum Paleis Het Loo in Appeldorn (Inventarnummer RL451) verwahrt wird. BILDNIS EINER ELEGANTEN DAME Öl auf Holz. Parkettiert. 117 x 89,5 cm. In einem Innenraum mit nach links gezogenem schweren, grün glänzenden Brokatvorhang das Dreiviertelportrait einer jungen Dame in einem eleganten Kleid. Dieses silber-graue Kleid ist mit diversen roten Blumen mit grünen Blättern gemustert, dazu ein großer weißer, teils durchsichtiger Spitzenkragen, der im Brustbereich eine goldene Brosche und einige Perlenketten enthält, zudem sind die Ärmelenden mit feinem Spitzenbesatz versehen. Dazu trägt sie einen teils durchsichtigen schwarzen Umhang, um den Hals eine dreireihige Perlenkette und um die Handgelenke ebenso wertvollen Schmuck. Sie hält in ihrer rechten Hand, an einer längeren goldenen Kette, einen schwarzen Fächer. Sie hat hellbraunes Haar mit einem kleinen goldenen Schmuckstück. Sie hat sehr feines Inkarnat und mit ihren mit Glanzlichtern versehenen, blauen Augen schaut sie aufmerksam aus dem Bild heraus. Qualitätvolle Portraitdarstellung mit gekonnter Licht- und Schattenführung. Kleinere Retuschen und Farbabrieb.
