SERVANDO CABRERA MORENO (Havana, 1923 - 1981). "Pair of male nudes", 1974. Pencil on paper (x2). With damage to the outer perimeter which does not affect the work.

        Est: €600 - €700

SERVANDO CABRERA MORENO (Havana, 1923 - 1981). "Pair of male nudes", 1974. Pencil on paper (x2). With damage to the outer perimeter which does not affect the work. Signed and dated in the lower central area. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Measurements: 49 x 63 cm (x2); 100 x 63 cm (frame). Provenance: Manuel Reguera Saumell collection, recognised as one of the great Cuban writers and playwrights of the 20th century. As the set of photographs accompanying this collection testify, Reguera forged close friendships with the leading exponents of Cuban art during the years he spent in his native country. It was then that Reguera, backed by the bond that united him with Amelia Peláez, Rene Portocarrero, Carlos Abela and Antonia Eiriz, began his facet as a collector, giving birth to what would become his personal collection. A prolific Cuban painter, Servando Cabrera trained at the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Havana, graduating in 1942, two years after his debut at the city's Fine Arts Salon. In 1943 he held his first solo exhibition, at the Liceum in Havana, and from then on he would repeatedly appear in the halls and salons of the Cuban capital. In 1946 he travelled to the United States and studied at the Arts Students League in New York, where he became involved in the world of theatre and costume and set design. Three years later he travelled to Europe, where he attended the Grande Chaumière Academy in Paris. During these years he exhibited his work in Spain and France, and before returning to Cuba he visited Mexico and Central America. His painting became part of revolutionary art on his return to Cuba, although from the mid-1960s he resumed the abstract experiments he had begun decades earlier under the influence of Cubism, this time with a clear influence of American Expressionism. However, his painting never ceased to evolve. Throughout his life, Cabrera held more than a hundred exhibitions, twenty of them solo exhibitions, both in America and in Europe. He is currently represented at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, the Veranneman in Belgium, the National Gallery of Sofia in Bulgaria, the ICAIC in Havana, the UN in New York, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana and other leading public and private collections.
