KOLOMAN MOSER (MONTIERUNG) AND GISELA FALKE (VASE): VASE WITH METAL MOUNT

    Est: €2,000 - €4,000

(EP)

Moser OM SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 300 - 600 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 300 Koloman Moser was an important Austrian artist and designer, one of the most important representatives of Art Nouveau and co-founder of the Vienna Secession and the Wiener Werkstätte. Born on March 30, 1868 in Vienna, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and at the School of Applied Arts in Vienna. Moser was a versatile artist who worked in the fields of painting, graphics, furniture and product design, and arts and crafts. He strived for the unification of art and crafts and demanded a complete integration of all artistic areas of everyday life. As a co-founder of the Vienna Secession in 1897, he was one of the most progressive artists of his time, as was the later founded Wiener Werkstätte, of which he was artistic director. Moser's designs are characterized by clear geometric lines, sophisticated patterns and a pronounced stylistic rigor, which significantly influenced Art Nouveau. In addition to his work for the Wiener Werkstätte, he also designed glasses, fabrics, furniture and jewelry that can be found in numerous museums and collections worldwide. His influence on the Austrian and international art and design master is still significant today, even though he died in 1918 at the age of 50. Further artists and styles: Josef Hoffmann, Gustav Klimt, Art Nouveau, Dagobert Peche, Leopold Forstner, Lilly Reich, Berthold Löffler, Emil Orlik, Mathilde Flögl, Lotte Calm, Emmy Rothziegel, Gudrun Baudisch, Jutta Sika, Ena Rottenberg, Marie Likarz, Carl Moser PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.

(Vienna 1868–1918) „Mittwoch 27. Februar”, Study for a Calendar Page, c. 1900, titled in the illustration, gouache, ink and pencil on paper, laid on cardboard, 28.5 x 27.5 cm, framed Provenance: Sale, Sotheby’s, London, 24 March 1998, lot 304 Private Collection, Vienna Sale, Dorotheum, Vienna, 23 November 2016, lot 574 Private Collection, Vienna A Wednesday falling on February 27th - as noted on the sheet and visually reinforced by the depiction of Mercury (Mercurius) - occurs exclusively in the year 1901. Kolo Moser must therefore have completed the design in the previous year. Monthly images, published either as individual sheets, in book form, or in art magazines, played a significant role in the spread of the new Secessionist style. The present calendar sheet for the month of "February" is a rare original design by Kolo Moser from around 1900, which he likely created for the magazine Ver Sacrum. Typical of Moser’s Secessionist style is the floral border with the name of the month and the decorative division of the image fields in a color minimalism of red and black on a white background. The motif itself is deliberately enigmatic; the beautiful woman with a raven, embraced by a mischievously grinning Pierrot, draws on popular folk tales and legends. Another intriguing image puzzle is the half-figure of Mercury, the Roman messenger god, after whom Wednesday is named. This code also helps to determine the year, as only in 1901 did Wednesday fall on February 27th, as indicated. Therefore, Kolo Moser must have completed this drawing around 1900.

Koloman Moser (1868–1918) Champagne glass "Meteor" - Around 1899 Glass blows in a moUle Manufacture by Meyr's Neffe (Adolf) Sponsored by E. Bakalowits Sohne, Vienna, for the Wiener Werkstatte This champagne glass, known as "Meteor", is an emblematic creation of Koloman Moser, co-founder of the Viennese Secession and the Wiener Werkstatte.Made around 1899, it is one of the first examples of a functional and epure design intended for artisanal production of excellence. Breath in a mold, this model was manufactured by Meyr's Neffe (Adolf), a renowned Bohemian glass factory pFor the quality of its productions, commissioned by the house E. Bakalowits Sohne in Vienna, supplier of the Wiener Werkstatte. The glass is distinguished by a sober and geometric shape, a subtle alliance between the structural rigor of the thin foot andThe lightness of the hemispherical cut. The total absence of decorative ornamentation responds to the principles of the Viennese Secession: to reduce the object to its formal essence, while making it a refined and modern artifact. This piece, both minimalistE and radical, fully illustrates Moser's desire to create everyday objects that are part of a total art, where each detail - up to the manufacturing technique - participates in a unified aesthetic.
