London Underground Poster Charles Mozley Smithfield Club Cattle Show

Original vintage London Transport poster for Smithfield Club Cattle Show that took place at the Royal Agricultural Hall from December 6-10 1937. Design by Charles Mozley (1914-1991) features two prize winning brown cows behind a fence wearing gold rosettes. London Transport logo in bottom right corner. The Smithfield Club Cattle Show was an annual British agricultural show founded in 1799 and was first held at Wootton's Livery Stables in Dolphin Yard, Smithfield, London. The last show was held in 2004 and was the last major livestock show in London. Very good condition, small tear, minor creasing. Country of issue: UK, designer: Charles Mozley, size (cm): 25.5x32, year of printing: 1937.

Original vintage London Transport poster for the Rugby League Final that took place on 6 May 1939 – Design by Charles Mozley (1914-1991) features an illustration of people reading the rugby game final announcement in blue, white, and red colours. Printed by The Dangerfield Printing Co, LTD, London. London Transport logo in the centre at the bottom. The League Cup final was played between Salford and Halifax, Halifax beat Salford by twenty points to three. Excellent condition. Country of issue: UK, designer: Charles Mozley, size (cm): 25.5x32, year of printing: 1939.

CHARLES MOZLEY 1914-1991. Original illustrations for the novel 'My Pal Spadger' by Bill Naughton 1910-1992 (published 1977). Pen and ink, and gouache. Annotated verso. Various sized, largest 42 x 30cm. Unframed. Naughton is best remembered for his play 'Alfie'. In addition to his illustration work for Folio Society and other publishers, Mozley also designed posters for London Underground, and for the film director Alexander Korda (12).

Please note: Charles Mozley, 1914-91, studied art at Sheffield and the Royal College of Art, London. During World War II he was firstly in a camouflage unit with Edward Seago, but in 1942 was moved to military intelligence. He produced posters for Shell, Ealing films, and a large mural of Florence Nightingale for the Health section of the 1951 Festival of Britain. He worked principally in oils and watercolours, although he is perhaps better known for his illustrations and book covers.
