Barridoff GalleriesEmily Muir (ME/IL, 1904-2003), Children at Play oil on canvas, signed at lower right, presented in a silver tone floater frame. DOA 24 x 33.5 in. Born in Chicago, Emily Muir (nee Lansingh) and her family moved to New York before her first birthday. She started her art studies in high school and continued them at Vassar College. She also studied at the Art Students League of New York, during which time she met her husband, William H. Muir. In addition to painting, she was a self-trained architect, a preservationist and a philanthropist. She and her husband were longtime residents of Stonington and Deer Isle, Maine. Her works are in numerous public and private collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Farnsworth Art Museum, and the Portland Museum of Art.
