Nerida Giles

Nerida was born near Cosmo Newberry. She spent her early childhood years in Western Australia before moving with her parents to Docker River settlement, as it was then. She lives at Tjukurla and spends her time between there and Alice Springs where she is furthering her studies as an Aboriginal Health Worker. She is one of six children and her mother is Esther Giles, a well known artist.

Nerida paints of pirni (many women) travelling from rockhole to rockhole. Nerida's mother grew up on the country around Tjukurla and she knows the flora and fauna intimately. There are many nutritious things to eat but it takes all day to collect them and to make damper before the men come back with kangaroo or a turkey.
