Blondes Mädchen, sich auf einen Gartenzaun stützend, daneben ein Schaf - Zwei Mädchen am Gartenzaun mit einem Blumen- und Früchtepokal, eine Blumengirlande windend - Zwei Mädchen am Gartenzaun mit Blumen- und Früchtepokal, ein Buch lesend bzw. ein Goldfischglas betrachtend - Blonder Jungen am Gartenzaun beim Fangen eines Schmetterlings. 4-teilige Wanddekoration als Rahmung für die 6 enkaustischen Wandgemälde mit Motiven aus dem Amor- und Psychemythos von Wilhelm von Kaulbach, ursprünglich für das Musikzimmer der Villa Dessauer in München. 4 enkaustische Gemälde, in Wachs gebundene Farbpigmente, auf Gipsplatten 1835. Die vorliegenden Werke waren ursprünglich Bestandteil einer vom pompejanischen Stil inspirierten Wanddekoration für den geräumigen, dreifenstrigen Musiksaal in der Villa des Münchener Juristen und Rechtsberaters des bayerischen Königshauses, Georg von Dessauer (1795 - 1870) in der Königinstr. 6 (heute 11a). Dessauer und seine Frau Luise waren außerordentlich kunstsinnig und empfingen zahlreiche Künstler in ihren Räumen, so u. a. E. N. Neureuther, C. Rottmann, C. Morgenstern, H. Heinlein und W. von Kaulbach, mit dem die Familie eine enge Freundschaft verband. 1835 beschloß dieser Künstlerkreis, sich durch die Ausmalung einiger Räume der Villa für die genossene Gastfreundschaft erkenntlich zu zeigen. Kaulbach hatte schon 5 Jahre zuvor den Tanzsaal in den Festappartements in dem von L. von Klenze erbauten Herzog-Max-Palais in der Ludwigstraße in München mit 16 Szenen aus Apulejus’ Erzählung „Amor und Psyche“ ausgeschmückt (Boetticher II, 3). Für das Musikzimmer der Dessauer-Villa entschied sich Kaulbach für leicht variierende Motive aus dem Zyklus in Enkaustik-Technik, während Neureuther die Dekorationen unterhalb und zwischen den Gemälden schuf. Ein umlaufender Fries zeigt das reiche Blattwerk eines Weingartens, üppige Blumen und blühende Sträucher hinter einem Gartenzaun, an dem sich die Kinder von Georg von Dessauer ihren Tätigkeiten hingeben. Schon bei Zeitgenossen war die Ausschmückung der Dessauerschen Villa berühmt und wurde 1840 in einem Münchner Stadtführer erwähnt: „Herr Advocat Dessauer hat mehrere Zimmer seiner Wohnung... mit Landschaften, Arabesken und historischen Darstellungen in enkaustischer Malerei schmücken lassen. Der Salon von Dessauer ist ein wunderschönes Beispiel von häuslicher Dekoration“ berichtete 1851 eine junge Engländerin nach einem Besuch bei der erst wenige Jahre zuvor in den Adelstand erhobenen Familie (Zitation nach: https://www.bayerische-staatszeitung.de/staatszeitung/kultur/detailansicht-kultur/artikel/kunstvoller-wanddekor.html; Artikel vom 05.01.2018). Das gesamte Ensemble verblieb trotz mehrerer Umbauten - darunter 1913/14 durch die bekannte, in München ansässige Firma Heilmann & Littmann GmbH, die sich auf Monumentalbauten und Villen spezialisiert hatte - vor Ort. Die Kaulbachschen Arbeiten wurden während des II. Weltkrieges im Rahmen der Luftschutzsicherung im sog. „Stucco-Verfahren“ unter Einbeziehung der Feinputzschicht abgenommen und in Holzrahmen eingepasst. Dabei wurden die Rückseiten mittels einer Holzlattenkonstruktion und Gipsmörtel verstärkt. Sie befinden sich heute zur Restaurierung im Bayerischen Landesamt für Denkmalpflege in München. Die Wanddekorationen von Neureuther galten dagegen als verschollen. Es ist zu vermuten, daß sie im Rahmen vorausgegangener Umbaumaßnahmen und Modernisierungen ebenfalls von den Wänden abgenommen wurden. Rudolf Oldenbourg (Kunsthistoriker und Kunstkritiker; München 1887 - 1921 Badenweiler) schreibt dazu in „Die Münchner Malerei im 19. Jahrhundert, 1. Teil: Die Epoche Max Josephs und Ludwig I“, München, Bruckmann, 1922, revidierte Neuausgabe, hrsg. von E. Ruhmer, München, Bruckmann, 1983 auf S. 251: „...Unmittelbar vorher war die liebenswürdigste seiner [Neuereuthers] malerischen Werke vollendet worden, die Dekorierung eines Zimmers im ehemaligen Dessauerhaus an der Königinstraße, deren Verlust wir umso schwerer verschmerzen, als er ohne zwingende Gründe und scheinbar ohne jedes verantwortliche Bewußtsein für die zerstörten Werte erfolgt ist“. Laut einem Brief von Dr. Armin Zweite vom 12. Juli 1990 - von 1974 bis 1990 Direktor der Städtischen Galerie im Lenbachhaus, München - wurden die Gemälde von Neureuther 1948 vom damaligen Besitzer im Lenbachhaus untergestellt und 1957 wieder abgeholt, nachdem ein erhoffter Ankauf durch die Galerie fehlgeschlagen war. 1981/82 wurden die 4 Gemälde von Neureuther von einem bayerischen Kunsthistoriker erworben.
