      Nov. 18, 2023

David Emile de Noter, Opulent Still Life

      Est: €18,000 - €24,000

Signed and dated lower left: DAVID DE NOTER. 47 Born in Ghent and active in Brussels and Paris, David de Noter specialised in interiors and still lifes. He owes his greatest fame to his "glowing still lifes, characterised by a particularly warm colouring and an intense clair-obscur" - this one in the Rademakers Collection is, according to Katlijne van der Stighelen, "one of his finest" (Katlijne van der Stighelen in: Guido de Werd: A Romantic Journey: Masterpieces from the Rademakers Collection, Eindhoven, 2014, p. 34). De Noter has rendered the flowers, fruits and animals of this exuberant still life in a magnificent technique with which he consciously echoes the great Flemish and Dutch still life painters of the 17th century. The artist, who was 22 years old at the time, thus demonstrated his talent at an early age.
