      Acrylic on nettle, stenciled Odili Donald Odita (b. 1966) – US-American painter and installation artist of Nigerian origin Signed ‘Odita’ and ‘Odili Donald Odita’, dated ‘2001’ two times and titled ‘SOMEWHERE’ on the overlap Dimensions: 46 x 55.5 cm Provenance: Florence Lynch Gallery, New York (stamped on the overlap); private collection, The Netherlands Typical abstract work in the tradition of African-American painting of the 1970s and 1980s, in which the artist deals with questions of race and society Condition: The work shows minor rubbings and soiling to the margins; otherwise the condition is very good. Odili Donald Odita (b. 1966) The Nigerian Odili Donald Odita grew up in Columbus, Ohio, USA, and studied painting at the Ohio State University and at the Bennington College in Vermont. Odita creates mainly paintings; sometimes, he also works in the fields of photography and installation. Since the 1990’s, he paints mainly large-scale works on canvas and plexiglass, as well as murals. Odita has been a professor of painting at the University of South Florida in Tampa, at the Florida State University in Tallahassee and at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University. In 2007 he exhibited works at the Venice Biennial. (cko) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance. The center of the work shows surface losses of paper and paint as well as several tears. The frame has minimally worn.
