Printed by Paul Dupont, Rue du Bouloi, Paris; London Office 20 Cheapside. In pink plastic laminate frame, under plexiglass. Light rippling, minor foxing. Laminate covering gone from bottom of frame. Two stamps for tax and use in Paris. "The French Maid" was a musical comedy in two acts by Basil Hood. Music by Walter Slaughter. Produced at Terry's Theatre, London, opened 24 April, 1897. Transferred to the Vaudeville Theatre, 12 February, 1898. Closed 6 August 1898 after 480 performances.

Le tout 80,5 x 50,8 cm - l’affiche 66,2 x 36,2 cm. - bon état - affiche contrecollée sur son carton d’origine, procédé courant à l’époque et entièrement d’origine. L’image présente quelques traces superficielles, avec de très discrètes marques d’oxydation. Les marges montrent de petites altérations, avec quelques manques et micro-déchirures, et les angles sont émoussés. Malgré ces signes d’usage, les couleurs restent très belles et l’ensemble conserve tout son charme. Une composition gracieuse de style Art nouveau, représentant une élégante gantée en tenue de fête brandissant le breuvage pétillant. Aux décors de grappes de raisins, volutes et sculptures art nouveau. Duminy et Cie, négociant en vins de champagne à Ay depuis 1814, racheté par Bollinger dans les années 1930. Jean de Paléologue, peintre et affichiste roumano‑français, actif à Paris puis aux États-Unis. It is surprising that this poster was not censored; Paris was by no means a prudish city, but this piece goes far beyond the charming girls of Chéret. These early, inline roller skates were the brainchild of Charles Choubersky, an engineer and avid inventor. Primarily a railway engineer, Choubersky made his fame and fortune by designing a highly-regarded, portable wood stove. That Choubersky's skates were easy to use is beautifully demonstrated here by Pal, who depicts a woman gliding effortlessly by a man who is incapable of standing upright on his ice skates. Jean de Paleologu, also known as de Paléologue or Jean Paleologue (1855-1942), was a Romanian painter, illustrator and poster artist, naturalized American, who often used Pal or PAL as a signature or studio mark. He worked in London, Paris, New York and Florida. Born in Bucharest and no doubt related to the old Paléologue family, he studied art in London, then returned to Romania, where he completed his studies at the Special School of Artillery and Military Engineering (?coala Special? de Artilerie ?i Geniu, founded in 1881). She then returned to London, circa 1889-1890, where she produced illustrations for books such as Frederick Wicks' Golden Lives: The Story of A Woman's Courage (Blackwood & Sons, 1891) and contributed to Vanity Fair (British version). She became a member of the Eccentrics Club. Using the name "Julius Price," he may also have been the author of the poster Daly's Theatre, An Artist's Model (London, before 1893), reproduced in Les Maîtres de l'affiche. He then moved to Paris. There he founded the Atelier Pal, in rue Denfert-Rochereau, and collaborated, among others, with the printing house founded by Paul Dupont. He illustrated Petits poèmes russes by Catulle Mendès, a collection published by Charpentier in 1893. He produced a large number of lithographed posters, especially for bicycle advertising, and also contributed to the JOB collection. He contributed to several French periodicals, including Le Rire, La Plume, Cocorico, Le Frou-frou, Sans-Gêne and La Vie en rose. He moved to the United States in 1900, but continued to work with Parisian clients for several years (Exposition Internationale de l'Automobile, Sansot publishing house, etc.). He worked for newspapers such as The Strand Magazine, Motor (published by Hearst), the Cycle and Automobile Trade Journal and the New York Herald Tribune. An He designed a series of posters for the 1908 Vanderbilt Cup, Durban Oil & Soap, New Cremo Victoria cigars, and more. In the United States, under the name "Jean Paleologue", naturalized in 1923, he painted portraits of actors and music-hall artists, as well as frescoes. He worked for companies specializing in advertising and graphic design, including the automobile and film industries. He left New York to settle in Florida in 1927, where he taught painting and accepted numerous commissions as part of the Federal Art Project. Paleologu died in Miami Beach.
