    Jack Pardue American/North Carolina, 1943-2023 "Nude" pastel on linen laid on foam core signed lower right, "Studio S, Alexandria, VA" label on backing paper, framed. Note: Jack Pardue graduated from the Ringling School of Art in 1964. Through years of exploration and study, he mastered a technique in working with pastels that defined his long and successful career as an artist. Pardue considered his pastels to be paintings, not drawings, and he approached each composition with both precision in design and an intuitive thoughtfulness of color. He often utilized high-key colors, once saying: "They allow me the freedom to express myself without constraint." His color choices and use of linen canvas as the ideal ground resulted in luminous and lush works. Pardue was not only a venerated artist but also a dedicated teacher. His work in landscape and portraiture garnered numerous awards and was exhibited at the Smithsonian, White House, Strategic Air Command Museum and American History Museum. Pardue was the subject of a feature article in the February 2010 issue of American Artist Magazine.
