            Est: $400 - $800

Robert Andrew Parker (B. 1927) USA, Sculpture. Signed on back. Parker considered to Cornwall Connecticut's Renaissance Man, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and his work is as eclectic as it is engaging. With "masterful illustrations, ranging from wartime aerial combat, foreign travel and sultry women, silent picture stars to pet dogs and cats curled, slanted exaggerated awash in soak of poppy pastels." His work's been seen in collections at the MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney. A body of work that defines his range as one "Cool CAT." This particular cat sculpture is fun, whimsical and a bit naughty...and based on the Gibbs 1916 Serie des Chats. This provocative piece, comprised of wood captures a black and gray kitty cat standing on tube of toothpaste or is it a tube of paint? The phrase on the base under the tube translates to “Finally! I found the vein!” from French. Circa 1990. Size: 24 3/8 x 9 /8 x 32 3/4 in. #1408 Location Q

Robert Andrew Parker New York, (b. 1927) cityscape, 1956 watercolor/mixed media on paper Signed and dated lower left. Back side signed and dated 1955. Biography from the Archives of AskArt: Born 1927, Norfolk, Virginia, Robert Andrew Parker attended the school of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1948 until 1952 and worked during the following months at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and at Stanley William Hayter's Atelier 17 in New York. Since his first solo show in 1954, Parker has exhibited extensively, and his credits include set designs for opera and film as well as book illustrations. In his watercolors Parker combines areas of pure color with design conceived in terms of silhouette and shape. He takes his subject matter mostly from the natural world—dogs, trees, mountains, people, birds—and condenses and simplifies imagery with a swift, expressionistic technique. During his career Parker has worked in locales as Arles and Saint-Remy in France and the Himalayas, where a 1981 walking tour provided the subjects for a series on landscapes and fellow trekkers.
