This pair of "Tulip" stools is an attractive elevated version of one of Pierre Paulin's most recognizable designs for Artifort, the Dutch firm with which the designer established some of the landmarks of European furniture in the second half of the 20th century. Its enveloping, organically inspired silhouette transforms the seat into a continuous, fluid, almost sculptural form, where backrest, armrests and seat are integrated into a single curved line. Measurements: 83 × 105 × 83 cm (armchair); 38 × 75 cm (footrest) The Pumpkin model holds a unique place in Pierre Paulin’s career: it was conceived in 1971 for the private apartments of Claude and Georges Pompidou at the Élysée Palace and remained associated with that institutional commission for decades, until Ligne Roset brought the design into public production for the first time. This historical provenance lends the model a significance that transcends its status as a piece of domestic furniture. The armchair embodies Paulin’s exploration of a new way of living, based on low, enveloping, and fully upholstered seats, moving away from the conventional structure of separate legs, arms, and backrests. The continuity of its volumes and the radial seams transform the upholstery into the very architecture of the piece, while the footrest extends its purpose as a comfortable and protective ensemble. The low seat, the tall, slightly reclined backrest, and the integrated armrests create a continuous, inviting, and ergonomic form—a hallmark of Paulin’s design language. This pair of "Tulip" stools is an attractive elevated version of one of Pierre Paulin's most recognizable designs for Artifort, the Dutch firm with which the designer established some of the landmarks of European furniture in the second half of the 20th century. Its enveloping, organically inspired silhouette transforms the seat into a continuous, fluid, almost sculptural form, where backrest, armrests and seat are integrated into a single curved line. The "Tulip" model synthesizes some of Paulin's great contributions to modern design: the search for ergonomics, the reduction of the visible structure and the use of upholstery as a visual element, not merely decorative. In contrast to the rigid furniture of the functionalist tradition, Paulin proposed pieces of great formal sensuality, designed to adapt to the body and renew the domestic and public experience of seating. Pierre Paulin is considered an essential figure in 20th century French design. His collaboration with Artifort, which began in the 1960s, gave rise to iconic pieces such as the "Mushroom", "Ribbon", "Tongue" and "Tulip" models, today valued by international collectors and present in museums and reference collections. PIERRE PAULIN (France, 1927 - 2009) for AP Polak. Armchair "AP-14", 1950s. Metal and fabric. In good state of preservation. Measurements: 68 x 65 x 78 cm. This "AP-14" armchair in canvas, designed by Pierre Paulin for AP Polak in the 1950s, embodies the designer's first explorations of lightness and comfort. Its slender and elegant tubular steel structure highlights the original canvas, now enhanced by the passage of time. Initially a deep eggplant red, the fabric has been subtly transformed under the effect of the sun, revealing a nuanced beige tone, slightly shaded with eggplant. This natural patina gives the armchair a unique presence, a true mark of the passage of time. Despite its age, the canvas remains resistant and retains all its tension. When the armchair is lifted, the original color is revealed, preserved and vibrant. A rare and coveted piece, this "AP-14" perfectly illustrates the dialogue between structural rigor and sensuality of materials, characteristic of Pierre Paulin's work. A precious testimony to the French modernism of the 1950s, destined for collectors and lovers of exceptional design. The designer Pierre Paulin, considered one of the most important representatives of French design in the mid-twentieth century, and especially in the seventies, began working with the firm Thonet in 1952. During these years he would discover the use of new industrial materials, following in the footsteps of Eames, Saarinen and Bertoia. This emblematic armchair is model F444, an iconic creation of the French designer Pierre Paulin for the Dutch firm Artifort. Made here in black leather stretched over a chrome tubular structure, it perfectly illustrates the radical and sculptural aesthetic of the design of the 1960s-70s, although it was produced during the reissue launched by Artifort in the early 2000s. With its taut lines and suspended seat, the F444 offers remarkable visual and physical comfort. The black leather, elegantly patinated over time, retains a beautiful suppleness and a satin texture that accentuates the brutalist and sophisticated character of the piece. Acquired at Artifort in the early 2000s, this model is part of the brief reissue carried out by the firm, which makes this version even rarer. It is in very good condition for a piece more than twenty years old. Pierre Paulin, an essential figure of post-war French design, developed much of his career with Artifort, where he experimented with new materials and organic forms. Made here in patinated cognac leather, stretched over a chrome-plated tubular frame with a marked geometry, it perfectly embodies the formal boldness and the quest for comfort characteristic of the modernist design of the period. With its taut lines and suspended seat, the F675 offers a feeling of lightness and enveloping comfort. The original leather, carefully treated in the workshop, has a unique patina that bears witness to the passage of time, while enhancing the raw and elegant character of the piece. Its minimalist metal structure, in the shape of a cross and without superfluous elements, gives it a sculptural and aerial silhouette. The F577 "Tongue Chair", designed by Pierre Paulin in 1967 for the Dutch firm Artifort, is one of the most iconic pieces of pop and futuristic design of the sixties thanks to its organic, low and sinuous shape, reminiscent of an unfolded tongue. It is constructed with a metal tubular structure covered with foam and elastic fabric, which allows it to have a continuous and sculptural silhouette without traditional visible elements such as legs or arms, also offering a relaxed and informal posture.
