    Est: £250 - £350

William Payne,  British c.1760-c.1830-  Fishermen hauling in a net in a rocky cove, possibly at Falmouth;  pen, ink, and watercolour on paper, 20 x 29.6 cm.  Provenance:  Property from a deceased estate, UK.  Note:  This coastal landscape is a typical example of Payne's striking and atmospheric watercolours, with the present work, depicting figures hauling in a fishing net in a cove, rendered particularly engaging by the dramatic chiaroscuro of the scene, with the action highlighted by shafts of sunlight which contrast with the ominous cliffs and dark skies above.
