Painter, b. 1924 - d. 2022

(b Pittsburg, PA, 1924) American Painter. Philip Pearlstein attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he earned his BFA, and New York University, where he received his MFA. Pearlstein began his painting career in the midst of the Modernist movement, which rejected realism. However, Pearlstein clung to representational, more naturalistic depictions. He began with landscapes and later focused his paintings on the nude figure. He has won many awards for his work, including the National Council of Arts Administrator Visual Artist Award and was President of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

                  Philip Pearlstein (American, 1924-2022). A limited edition aquatint etching on Rives BFK paper with deckled edge. Titled, "Model in Green Kimono," produced 1979. A figural work depicting a seated semi nude female figure, modeled wearing the eponymous garment with a faraway expression in her eyes. The artist was cited by critics as the preeminent figure painter of the 1960s to 2000s, leading a revival in Realist art. Edition number in pencil to lower left 15 of 41, with hand written title MODEL IN GREEN KIMONO to lower center, and artist pencil signature and dated PHILIP PEARLSTEIN 1979 to lower right. Ink stamped PROTECTED WITH RAG BOARD to back paper lining. Presented under glass with a cream mat backing in a fitted wood gallery frame. Work Size: 40.15 x 27.15 in. Dimensions: 43 X 30 X 1.25 in. Condition: Good overall condition having mild age related surface wear. Frame having mild wear to edges and corners. Estate fresh to the market.
