Percival (1765-1826), Military Officer. Illustrated with 4 fold. maps (the island, ports of Trincomalee and Colombo and pearl fishing map). Percival describes the effects of the Portuguese and Dutch rule and gives various instances of Dutch cruelty. Other chapters deal with the pearl fishery, the town and forts of Colombo, the salt works of the island, the production of cinnamon, the inland capital of Kandy, the geography of Ceylon, its geology, climate, minerals, flora and fauna, the customs and costumes of the inhabitants, their religion and their military organisation. - Ref. Henry et illustrée de quatre cartes et plans dépliants, dont une grande carte de l'île de Ceylan par Arrowsmith. Coiffes supérieures rognées, coins usés, des rousseurs. With 4 tables per etching several times folded outside the text of which a large map of the island, one of the city of Colombo, one of the fishing of pearls and one of the port of Trincomale, the latter with a small restoration, sporadic foxing, small stain on the paper 'island, ligature coeval in leather, title and numbering embossed in gold on spine within double block, defects on spine o and hinges, traces of use. Traces of signature belonging to endpaper.
