The figure is reduced to a black silhouette, with an almost childlike or archetypal profile, situated at the bottom of the paper. He carries bags and casts a long shadow, as if he were a traveler paused in a moment of waiting or transit. The vertical text—“The blind man as a traveler”—introduces a literary and philosophical dimension that connects to the title and the reference to Elias Canetti. Plensa does not present a conventional portrait here, but rather a symbolic self-representation: the artist identifies with the figure of the blind traveler, one who moves forward guided by memory, intuition, and inner experience. The image, with its great formal austerity, transforms the emptiness of the washi paper into a space of resonance and contemplation. Against the expansive expanse of washi paper appears a seated black silhouette, almost silhouetted against the light, whose shadow is cast to the side as a physical and mental extension of its presence. The economy of means intensifies the work’s contemplative dimension. The text arranged vertically—“I have not done marvellous. Few conversations”—introduces a literary and poetic reading, linked to the world of Elias Canetti and to the importance Plensa attaches to the word as sculptural material. This is not a literal portrait of the writer, but rather a symbolic self-representation: Plensa projects himself “as” Canetti, establishing a dialogue between identity, thought, memory, and language. The seated figure, isolated at the bottom of the composition, seems to inhabit a space of silence. The Song of Songs series within Jaume Plensa’s graphic work is part of a line of inquiry in which the artist translates some of the essential concerns of his sculptural practice into print: the relationship between body, word, memory, and space. Although it is not a single, isolated piece but rather a collection of editions and variations, this series is part of a period in which Plensa began to consolidate a poetic language based on the materialization of the intangible. In *Song of Songs V*, one of the best-known versions, Plensa treats the print as a space of tension between the visible and the immaterial, where the image does not seek to represent literally, but rather to suggest states of perception and experience. The series takes the Song of Songs as its conceptual reference—a biblical text rich in symbolism and poetry, traditionally associated with love, union, and transcendence. This literary reference aligns with the artist’s interest in poetic texts as a source of visual and emotional structure. Formally, these works are typically characterized by a minimalist and conceptual aesthetic, in which repetition, the superimposition of signs, and the presence of refined graphic structures create an almost meditative effect. Between 1999 and 2003 Plensa became one of the pillars of world scenography, reinterpreting with "La Fura dels Baus" four classical operas by Falla, Debussy, Berlioz and Mozart, and alone a contemporary theatrical production, "La pareti della solitudine", by Ben Jelloun. He has had solo and group exhibitions all over the world, including a retrospective at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2000. In June 2008 he inaugurated in London, at the BBC headquarters, his work "Breathing", a monument dedicated to journalists killed in the exercise of their profession. Throughout his career he has received numerous distinctions, such as the Medal of the Knights of Arts and Letters in 1993, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, or the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1997, from the Generalitat of Catalonia. Considered one of the leading representatives of the new Spanish art of expressionist tendency, his work is present in the best national and international galleries and art fairs, as well as in the main museums of Europe and the United States, such as the MOMA in New York, the Kemper in Kansas, the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Palazzo Forti in Verona, the MACBA or the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid.

It is not frequent to find self-portraits in Jaume Plensa's artistic career. Through his work, the artist reflects on identity from perspectives linked to gender or race, usually resorting to anonymous figures. For this reason, the piece we are contemplating has a particularly singular character. With a simple and almost naïf language, Plensa recreates his own silhouette, paying particular attention to the features of the face. The letters and words, recurring elements in his production, are once again present in this work, where the artist shows the viewer the path he will follow by means of a broken line that ends in "Zaragoza". The eyes, represented independently, are directed towards Olga and Yolanda, while the hand points to Fernando, the recipient of the dedication of the work. "La neige rouge" is one of the most significant artist's books of Jaume Plensa's early production in the nineties, a moment in which the artist explores with intensity the relationship between time, memory and matter. The work is articulated around thirteen etchings and aquatints that display a symbolic imagery characteristic of this period: clocks, organic structures and forms that oscillate between the corporeal and the mechanical. The inclusion of the 26 original copper plates turns the whole into a piece with a strong sculptural dimension, where matrix and image coexist as an essential part of the discourse. It is not only an illustrated book, but an integral artistic object in which process, material and final result form a conceptual unit. The use of handmade paper from El Molí de Gelida and the printing done by Magí Baleta underline the technical excellence of the project, while the metal case made by Fundició Cabot reinforces the physical and architectural presence of the whole. Jaume Plensa studied at the Llotja School and at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. Created in 1983, “Home II” belongs to an early phase of Jaume Plensa’s career, when the artist was beginning to explore some of the themes that, decades later, would establish him as one of the most recognized figures in international contemporary art. Although very different from the monumental heads and human figures for which he is known today, this work already foreshadows essential themes of his creative universe: the human condition, identity, memory, and the relationship between the body and space. The composition is structured around a powerful vertical form dominated by a limited palette of blacks, whites, and earthy grays. At first glance, the image seems to oscillate between abstraction and figuration. However, as the viewer’s gaze lingers on it, an anthropomorphic presence emerges: a schematic figure reminiscent of a totem, an ancestral idol, or a primitive representation of the human body. The thick black lines delineate an essential anatomy, reduced to elementary signs, while the circular forms and rough textures introduce a symbolic and almost ritualistic dimension. The date of creation is particularly significant. During the early 1980s, Jaume Plensa was going through a period of intense experimentation in which he worked indiscriminately with painting, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. Fresh out of the artistic context of the Spanish Transition, the artist was interested in the expressive possibilities of materials and in artistic languages close to Expressionism and primitive art. His works from this period feature dense, gestural, and textural surfaces, still far removed from the conceptual and technological lightness that would characterize some of his later works. *Home II* reflects precisely this quest. The figure appears to be constructed from layers, imprints, and traces that evoke an archaeology of memory. Rather than representing a body, the work seems to explore what remains of it: its imprint, its symbolic presence, its spiritual condition. This reflection on the human being, understood from a universal and timeless perspective, constitutes one of the central themes of Plensa’s entire career. Born in Barcelona in 1955, Jaume Plensa began his training at the La Llotja School of Art and Design and at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts. From an early age, he showed an interest in material experimentation and in the dialogue between different artistic disciplines. LI is one of the most relevant book-objects of Jaume Plensa's first period. Conceived as a total work, it integrates engraving, poetry and sculpture in a single artistic device. The loose pages, kept in a rigid unvarnished copper case, reinforce the material and sculptural dimension of the whole, where the book ceases to be a support and becomes an autonomous object. Copper -a key material in Plensa's production during the eighties- introduces a reflection on time and transformation, while the etchings and aquatints display an organic and symbolic language that dialogues with Jesús Ferrero's text. Attached explanatory sheet made by the artist of the configuration of the catalog and the exhibition set up. Framed with museum glass. Signed, dated, titled and dedicated on the perimeter of the paper. Measurements: 30 x 22 cm (work), 37 x 29 cm (frame); 30 x 21 cm, 48 x 39 cm (frame) . Both are framed. This lot is composed of two different elements, a handwritten sheet by the artist showing indications on how to exhibit the piece and finally the original work by Plensa. The work shows some influence of movements such as surrealism and Dada, not only because they present different anatomical parts dissected and decontextualized, but also because of the introduction of words that seem to be unrelated to the pictograms of the piece. Jaume Plensa studied at the Escuela de La Llotja and the Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi, both in Barcelona. He excelled in sculpture, drawing and engraving. His work focuses on the relationship between man and his environment, often questioning the role of art in society and the position of the artist. He currently lives in Paris, and has recently been awarded an honorary doctorate degree by the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Plensa began his career working with wrought iron mixed with polyester. Between 1983 and 1984 he began to mold iron with the casting technique, and developed a sculptural concept based on zoomorphic elements. His work evolved gradually, and he is now considered a precursor of Spanish neo-expressionism. In the nineties he introduced modifications in his work, both materially and formally, and began to use different materials such as scrap metal, polyester and resins. During these years he elaborated series of walls, doors and architectural constructions, seeking to give space an absolute protagonism. Between 1999 and 2003 Plensa became one of the pillars of world scenography, reinterpreting with "La Fura dels Baus" four classical operas by Falla, Debussy, Berlioz and Mozart, and alone a contemporary theatrical production, "La pareti della solitudine", by Ben Jelloun. He has had solo and group exhibitions all over the world, including a retrospective at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2000. In June 2008 he inaugurated in London, at the BBC headquarters, his work "Breathing", a monument dedicated to journalists killed in the exercise of their profession. Throughout his career he has received numerous distinctions, such as the Medal of the Knights of Arts and Letters in 1993, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, or the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1997, from the Generalitat of Catalonia. Considered one of the leading representatives of the new Spanish art of expressionist tendency, his work is present in the best national and international galleries and art fairs, as well as in the main museums of Europe and the United States, such as the MOMA in New York, the Kemper in Kansas, the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, the Palazzo Forti in Verona, the MACBA or the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid.

It is not frequent to find self-portraits in Jaume Plensa's artistic career. Through his work, the artist reflects on identity from perspectives linked to gender or race, usually resorting to anonymous figures. For this reason, the piece we are contemplating has a particularly singular character. With a simple and almost naïf language, Plensa recreates his own silhouette, paying particular attention to the features of the face. The letters and words, recurring elements in his production, are once again present in this work, where the artist shows the viewer the path he will follow by means of a broken line that ends in "Zaragoza". The eyes, represented independently, are directed towards Olga and Yolanda, while the hand points to Fernando, the recipient of the dedication of the work.
