Defined by himself as ArtCieMist, artist, scientist and mystic, he was self-taught and exhibited for the first time in 1968. That same year he created his own state, an alternative conception of reality called Evrugo, with its own elements and an alphabet of his own invention. In 1975 he received a scholarship from the Juan March Foundation and J. W. Fullbright to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was initiated in the use of new technologies. From the seventies onwards he participated in solo and group exhibitions that made him internationally known. This work by Zush is a direct window into his complex and fascinating personal universe, known as the "Evrugo Mental State". It is a piece that combines mysticism, invented calligraphy and the exploration of states of consciousness. The use of mixed media on paper allows us to appreciate transparencies and textures that give the work the character of an "alchemical manuscript". The chromatic richness of blue contrasts with the earth and fire tones of the central figures, creating a vibrant visual tension. Zush, later known as Evru, is one of the most singular artists of Spanish contemporary art. Measurements: 29 x 20 cm., 40 x 31.5 cm.(frame) Sorusto is clearly situated within Zush's most characteristic graphic universe, in a stage in which drawing functions as a primary territory of psychic and symbolic invention. The work presents a hybrid, floating entity of unstable anatomy, built from nervous lines, organic wefts and almost cartographic signs. Face, eye, mouth and embryonic forms are superimposed without hierarchy, generating an ambiguous image, halfway between creature, mental map and organism in mutation. The use of pencil and ink allows for an extremely sensitive register of gesture: very fine, reiterated, almost obsessive lines coexist with denser areas that suggest concentrated energy or nuclei of consciousness. There is no background or defined space; the figure seems suspended in a mental void, reinforcing the sensation of interiority and process rather than finished representation. Defined by himself as ArtCieMist, artist, scientist and mystic, he was self-taught and exhibited for the first time in 1968. That same year he created his own state, an alternative conception of reality called Evrugo, with its own elements and an alphabet of his own invention. In 1975 he received a scholarship from the Juan March Foundation and J. W. Fullbright to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was initiated in the use of new technologies. From the seventies onwards he participated in solo and group exhibitions that made him internationally known. Some of these exhibitions were the Documenta in Kassel (1977), "New images of Spain" (Guggenheim, New York, 1980), "Les magiciens de la Terre" (Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, 1989), "Drawing on chance" (MOMA, New York, 1995), "Zush Tecura" (MACBA, Barcelona, 2000) and his retrospective organized in 2000 by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. That same year he received the City of Barcelona award for the plastic arts. He has participated in different editions of the Cologne and Chicago art fairs, and in all the editions of the Basel fair. In his new stage as Evru he presented, in 2004, the exhibition "From Zush to Evru: the second reincarnation", at the Haim Chanin Gallery in New York.
