A Prussian iron portrait medallion of Princess Louise of Prussia (1808-1870), by Leonhard Posch (1750-1831), Early 19th century, Germany, Black patinated cast iron, the princess wearing a pearl necklace and chemise gown, engraved to the reverse 'Prinzessinn Louise v. Preussen'. Starting in Vienna, the Austrian sculptor and medalist Leonhard Posch perfected his techniques during his stay in Berlin from 1804. Princess Louise of Prussia married Prince Frederick of the Netherlands (1797-1881) on 21 May 1825, and they lived at Korte Voorhout in The Hague. Posch, Leonhard Ovales Medaillon des Apostels Paulus. Eisenkunstguss, schwarz gebrannt. Unterhalb des Brustbildes ist der Namenszug "PAULUS" zu lesen. Verso mit Schriftzug: "Harz". Erstes Drittel 19. Jahrhundert. 14,8 x 12,5 cm (oben mit Durchbohrung, partiell oberflächliche Rostspuren). Leonhard Posch (1750-1831) war Wachsbossierer, Medailleur und Bildhauer und berühmt für seine hervorragenden Porträtdarstellungen. Das Modell des Apostels Paulus stammt aus der Zeit um 1817. Alle drei königlich-preußischen Eisengießereien in Gleiwitz, Berlin und Sayn nutzten das Paulus-Modell von Posch für die Produktion von Eisengüssen. Der voliegende Guss wurde in einer Eisenhütte im Harz gegossen, wo seinerzeit eines der wichtigsten Zentren des Eisenkunstgusses in Deutschland war.

Porcelain, red and gold painted Berlin, 1923 Royal Porcelain Manufactory (KPM), established in Berlin in 1763 Model: Portrait after Leonhard Posch (1750-1831) Underglaze blue sceptre mark, orb mark in iron red, painter's mark, year cypher Bell-shaped cup with pulled-up swan-neck-styled handle and gilding inside Encicling floral decoration as well as an oval profile portrait made in bisque porcelain Height cup: c. 11 cm; diameter saucer: c. 14 cm Very good condition Memory cups in compliment to Prussian Queen Luise (1776-1810) were manufactured by KPM first time in 1810 and re-issued in celebration of her 100th anniversairy of death in 1910. Condition: Cup and saucer are in very good condition apart from minor wear. The height of the cup measures c. 11 cm, the diameter of the saucer 14 cm. Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin The first porcelain manufactory at Berlin was founded on the suggestion of Frederick the Great by Wilhelm Caspar Wegely and J. Benckgraff in 1752, yet already 5 years later production was stopped because the king was not satisfied with the porcelain. With the invasion of Meissen by the Prussian army, many modelers and porcelain painters came to Berlin, where in 1761 the merchant Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky founded a new factory. This was finally bought in 1763 by Frederick the Great, who named it ‘Royal Porcelain Factory’ and introduced the cobalt blue scepter mark. During this time, the factory began producing exquisite tableware in a late Rococo style, which was painted with flowers, birds and scenes after Watteau Boucher and Dutch masters in vivid colors. Famous porcelain painters of the manufactory were K. W. Böhme, B. Böhme and K. J. C. Klipfel; master modelers were Friedrich Elias Meyer and his brother Wilhelm Christian. Typical Berlin porcelain patterns on tableware were moldings, scale-ground borders, landscapes, birds and animals, molded basketwork patterns and pierced rims. After Theodor Schmuz-Baudiß took over as artistic director in 1798, the tableware was decorated in underglaze painting with landscapes and cityscapes in delicate colors. In 1871 the factory was moved to its present location at the Tiergarten near the Spree, so that the raw materials and finished products were finally able to be transported by ship. In 1886 the painting of porcelain tiles was added as a new line of production under the direction of Professor Alexander Kips. After the destruction of the factory during WWII, KPM was taken over in 1988 by the state of Berlin and since 2006 has been in the possession of Berlin based private banker Jörg Woltmann.
