    Ohne Titel Mischtechnik auf festem Velin. 1970. 106,5 x 76,5 cm. Unten rechts mit Bleistift signiert "PRACHENSKY" und datiert, verso bezeichnet "2". Blatt 2 aus der "Hannover"-Serie. Ein vehementer gestischer Farbauftrag bestimmt die expressive Zeichnung in Hellrot und Pink-Violett. "Rot lenkt den Blick auf die schnellen, heftigen Bewegungen des Malers und macht das Ziel Prachenskys, sich auf das Wesentliche zu konzentrieren, deutlich." (Ingrid Mössinger, in: Markus Prachensky, Ausst.-Kat. Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz 2004, S. 6). Prachensky gilt als einer der wichtigsten Vertreter des Informel in Österreich. Er studierte Architektur und parallel dazu ab 1953 Malerei an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Wien. 1956 gründete er gemeinsam mit Wolfgang Hollegha, Josef Mikl und Arnulf Rainer die Künstlergruppe um die Galerie nächst St. Stephan, geleitet von Otto Mauer. Seit seiner Anfang der 1960er Jahre entstandenen Serie "Rot und Rot - Berlin" entwickelte sich seine typische tachistische, expressive Malweise, und auch fortan benannte er seine Werkgruppen nach seinen jeweiligen Aufenthaltsorten. 1970 arbeitete Prachensky an seiner "Hanover-Series", deren charakteristischen Gestus unsere Zeichnung zeigt. - Provenienz: Privatbesitz Niedersachsen - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

The millennia-old settlements and necropolises, often reclaimed by nature, at Cerveteri, Populonia, and Norchia with their funerary architectures hewn from tuff stone, proved particularly compelling to the artist and found remarkable painterly articulation in the series “Etruria” (1980), “Etruria Meridionale” (1981), and “Etruria Blues” (1982). Provenance: Private Collection, Vienna That the paintings of the subsequent three years — beginning at the end of 1958, the year in which the Gainfarn series was produced — should, in their titles, read like a continuous list of addresses: Avant Seckau, Sebastianplatz, Wiesbaden, St. Stephan (the paintings were executed in the locked gallery), Aschaffenburg, and once again Sebastianplatz — bears witness to the painter’s precarious existence, one necessarily prepared for a life of continual makeshift arrangements. Yet within this biography such a condition is by no means exceptional. What is more distinctive, rather, is the almost consistent feature shared by these titles: the phrase that precedes the place names, Red on White, or Rouge sur blanc. Wolfgang Fleischer from: Markus Prachensky, Löcker Verlag, 1990 “Retournons à la peinture” As we find ourselves today in an age of rapidly developing technology, of space exploration, and of similar inventions, a portion of contemporary artists believes it necessary to make these tendencies and developments primarily visible within their art. Thus, in recent years, entire series of “artworks” have emerged which—although exhibited by respectable galleries open to the avant-garde—belong rather in technical laboratories, in the workshops of industrial designers, or upon the drawing boards of obstinate Bauhaus epigones. The fullest personal involvement in the creation of a work of art remains an indispensable element of artistic production. The ability to distinguish between technical invention and artistic creation ought to be of equal concern to artists, art dealers, and collectors alike. What is required is not the anonymity of the artist, not the collectivity of the idea, not intellectual calculation or para-technical contrivance, not a sterile imprint, but true painting, with all the heights and depths of life and spirituality.
