        Jun. 01, 2024

Fredrick Prescott, American (b. 1949), Land of the Free, 1993, painted steel kinetic sculpture with neon, 78"H x 20"W x 16"D

        Est: $700 - $900

Fredrick Prescott American, (b. 1949) Land of the Free, 1993 painted steel kinetic sculpture with neon Signed and dated on base. Sculpture can be disassembled into 4 pieces. Neon lighting. Boat is kinetic. Entire piece sits on stone circle atop a steel plinth. Biography from the artist's website: Life and art join to reveal a dynamic partnership in the work of Fredrick Prescott. The joy and animation seen in Prescott's sculptures simultaneously evoke the natural world and it's imaginary counterpart. As graphically bold and colorful as his pieces are, they always look perfectly at ease in a natural setting, though there is no denying their otherworldly quality. The dichotomy between the real and the fantastical in Prescott's artwork leads to the creation of a captivating, multi-dimensional art form. Using the visual and emotional impact of brilliant color on moving steel, the artist produces sculptures reflecting his singular perception of the world around him. His work is seen as a blend of folk art, pop art, and technically advanced construction. Fredrick Prescott's childhood experiences have influenced the kinetic animals and landscapes that have become his artistic trademark. Born in Palo Alto in 1949, the oldest son of the chief inventor and owner of the Universal Coin Meter Company, Prescott began working with metal at the age of six. In a playground of band saws, punch presses and metal grinders, he spent countless hours honing the skills he uses to transform metal into art by cutting, bending, and welding. By age twelve, Prescott was enrolled in a watercolor painting class where he immediately developed a passion for color. By both sculpting and painting his artwork, he began his career fascination for bold and colorful metal sculpture. Since 1974, Prescott has exhibited his work all over the world and created special pieces on commission for both private and corporate collectors, including Walt Disney Co., Porsche, and the Chicago Bulls, among others. Prescott's larger-than-life sculptures have frequently been installed in public parks and venues where people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy them. Mar. 14, 2024

        Frederick Prescott (American/New Mexico, b. 1949)

        Est: $1,500 - $2,500

Frederick Prescott (American/New Mexico, b. 1949), "Cactus", 1988, steel and pigment, signed and dated on self-base, h. 73 in., w. 43 in., d. 50 in. Provenance: Michael W. Murphy, El Dorado, AR. Note: Frederick Prescott began working with metal at the young age of six. Prescott’s father was the owner and chief inventor of Universal Coin Meter Company and allowed his son to play with grinders, presses and other metal-working tools, so Prescott spent much of his childhood turning metal into art. At the age of twelve, he was enrolled in a short watercolor class which would inspire his lifelong love of color. With such an early introduction to elements that would make up his unique artistic aesthetic, Prescott established the foundations for his style of art—metal work forged with a high level of craft and the use of a bright, showy palette—before reaching adolescence. As he got older, Prescott began to be increasingly influenced by nature, specifically that of the southwest as is evident in the sculpture on offer here entitled “Cactus.”

17.5L x 8W x 33H This is signed Prescott on the base and numbered 39/175. Amazing abstract colors depict a riding cowboy in a shoot out. Motion works just fine! In great condition with wear commensurate with age. Born May 18, 1949, in Palo Alto, California, Frederick Prescott is a self-taught artist, who resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico. On the artist's website, 2020, is the following text: Life and art join to reveal a dynamic partnership in the work of Fredrick Prescott. The joy and animation seen in Prescott’s sculptures simultaneously evoke the natural world and it’s imaginary counterpart. As graphically bold and colorful as his pieces are, they always look perfectly at ease in a natural setting, though there is no denying their otherworldly quality. The dichotomy between the real and the fantastical in Prescott’s artwork leads to the creation of a captivating, multi-dimensional art form. Using the visual and emotional impact of brilliant color on moving steel, the artist produces sculptures reflecting his singular perception of the world around him. His work is seen as a blend of folk art, pop art, and technically advanced construction. Fredrick Prescott’s childhood experiences have influenced the kinetic animals and landscapes that have become his artistic trademark. Prescott’s larger-than-life sculptures have frequently been installed in public parks and venues where people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy them.
