      Tränendes Auge Faserstift und Acryl über Offsetdruck auf glattem Velin. 1992. 20 x 27,6 cm. Verso mit Faserstift in Blau signiert und datiert. Dmitrij Prigow studierte Bildhauerei am Stroganow-Kunstinstitut in Moskau. Nach intensiver Auseinandersetzung mit visueller und konkreter Poesie schrieb er auch eigene Gedichte und Dramen sowie Essays und veranstaltete Musikperformances mit Jazz- und Rockmusikern. 1987 nahm Prigow an der Documenta 8 in Kassel teil und erhielt 1990 ein DAAD-Stipendium für einen einjährigen Aufenthalt in Berlin, während dessen er das Werk "Poet ohne Persönlichkeit" verfasste. "Neben Worten bestimmen Symbole wie z. B. Augen Prigows Zeichnungen. Komplexe Beziehungen zu mythischen, transzendenten und literarischen Inhalten entstehen. Das Auge ist schon in vorchristlicher Zeit Symbol der Gottheit, im Christentum Symbol für Gottvater bzw. den dreieinigen Gott. Aufgrund der repressiven Verhältnisse in Russland liegt aber auch die Assoziation mit allgegenwärtiger Kontrolle nahe, der westliche Betrachter muss an Orwells 'Großen Bruder' denken.
