Description: AUSTRALIAN, 1860-1940; The Wedding Procession, Etaples; Pastel, signed "Iso Rae"; 12.5 x 21 in, 32 x 53.5 cm; Note: Isobel Rae was an Australian nurse working as a volunteer with the Canadian/Australian medical core under a Canadian Orthopedic Surgeon, Major Charles E. Preston. Dr. Preston acquired the present work from the artist while in France, c.1914. This pastel depicts a wedding procession lead by a French sailor and his bride to be. The figure standing in the open doorway is the artist.

The Australian painter worked in France during World War 1 in a YMCA Camp near Ã‰taples (Départements Pas-de-Calais). She stayed in France until 1932 afterwards moving to St. Leonards near Sussex.
