Eric William Ravilious Sold at Auction Prices

Painter, Wood cutter, Lithographer, Illustrator, Water color painter, b. 1903 - d. 1942

Eric Ravilious, born 1903, was an English painter. He studied at Eastbourne School of Art and then at the Royal College of Art. Ravilious' work extended beyond just painting as he was gifted in design, book illustration, and wood engraving. His commissions included popular works he created for Wedgwood pottery between 1936 and 1940.

One of the most popular of Eric Ravilious' Wedgwood pieces was his renowned commemorative mug, made for the Coronation of Edward VII and revised for coronations of George VI and Elizabeth II. Eric Ravilious' decorative art included book jackets, book illustrations, textiles, glass, and furniture designs. He worked as an official War Artist from 1940 until 1942, when he was killed in action on a fly patrol mission. Notable Eric Ravilious decorative art and prints includes his watercolors Rye Harbor and The Attic Bedroom. As well as watercolors, wood engravings, and illustrations, you'll also find an extensive collection of Wedgewood china for sale online at Invaluable, ranging from Black Basalt and Jasperware to Byzance and Intaglio.
