Richard Gilson Reeve (1803-1889) THE FARMER'S BOY signed and dated 1843, pencil and watercolour heightened with white, 34 x 27cm A rare watercolour by one of the leading aquatint engravers of the period. It is possible that the artist's brother Alfred William Reeve (1807-1854) with whom he lived in Fleet Street in the 1830s, collaborated with him. The present composition, and treatment of the subject, are strongly reminiscent of the watercolours of their contemporary, William Henry Hunt (1790-1864).
