In this painting of group, a young mother surrounded by her numerous children, the gifts of Francisco Ribera with the genre of the portrait are made patent. His style combines the romantic influence with naturalism and the themes that are contemporary to him. Son of the painter Ribera Blázquez, he studied at the San Fernando Academy. In the thirties he worked as a poster artist, and during the Civil War he worked as an advertising draughtsman. In 1945 he obtained the chair of Drawing from Life at Rest at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, of which he finally became director between 1964 and 1972. In 1946 he was named Honorary Member of the Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors, and the following year he received the same appointment from the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid, after winning the Ministry of National Education Award at the Salón de Otoño in the capital. Academic of San Fernando since 1967, he was also a member of the Academy of Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville since 1971. He won several awards in national competitions, including the gold medal of the National of Madrid in 1950, and international, being awarded gold medals at the exhibitions in Brussels (1965) and Paris (1968).
