Sold at Auction: Marion Rice

The artist is Marion Rice, who has a very elusive biography. The same vague facts are repeated everywhere: sometimes marketed as Margaret, 20th Century, born in the Mid-West, trained in New York and Boston,She was born in St. Louis in 1905 and died in Arkansas in 1994. Her birth name was Marion. She DID live for awhile in New York, and was there during the 1940s and 50s. Rice's talent was noticed by a New York publisher, who made lithographs of some of her floral still-lifes, and sold about a gazillion prints of them. Rice was extremely prolific and painted several scenes set in France.
