WILLY RIZZO (Naples, 1928–Paris, 2013) for LUMINICA. Table lamp, 1970s. Chrome-plated metal and brass. In good condition. Includes original plug.

    Est: €800 - €900

WILLY RIZZO (Naples, 1928–Paris, 2013) for LUMINICA. Table lamp, 1970s. Chrome-plated metal and brass. In good condition. Includes original plug. Measurements: 74 x 28.5 x 21.5 cm (height). A table lamp with a solid, bold structure. It features a square base supporting a square-section prism that subtly and elegantly combines the sheen of brass with the hallmarks of chrome-plated metal. The top features three light sources. Designer and photographer Willy Rizzo began his career in Paris, where he has since built a solid reputation in the world of photography. His work as a designer began in 1966, when he moved with his wife into a small apartment in central Rome, which he renovated himself, also designing the furniture. Although he never intended to become a designer, his friends soon began commissioning him after seeing his home. In fact, his clients have included such prominent figures as Salvador Dalí and Brigitte Bardot. Rizzo always admired beautiful things, both modern and antique, so he focused his aesthetic experimentation on creating modern furniture that would blend seamlessly with antique pieces. His style defined an era in Italian design, and he is recognized as the designer of the Dolce Vita. Demand for his pieces grew so great that in 1968 he decided to start his own company, through which he has since created numerous pieces—always handmade—that combine fine materials such as travertine and bronze with distinctly modern ones like steel. Over time, he opened stores in Paris and other European cities, as well as in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles. In 1978, Rizzo sold his company and refocused his career on photography, having grown weary of the business world. During the ten years he spent designing furniture, Rizzo—a great admirer of Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, and Ruhlmann—developed a style that remains easily recognizable even today. His pieces feature clean lines and geometric shapes, crafted from carefully selected materials. He always remained faithful to the traditional, artisanal use of materials, rejecting mass production and the use of plastic. Some of his designs have been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and more recently at the Madison Mallet Gallery in London. In good condition. Comes with the original plug.

WILLY RIZZO (Naples, 1928–Paris, 2013) for BD Luminica. Floor lamp, 1970s. Chrome-plated metal and fabric shade. In working condition. Exhibits wear consistent with age and use. Bears the manufacturer’s stamp. Measurements: 157 x 41 x 41 cm. Floor lamp designed by Willy Rizzo for BD Luminica, Italy, 1970s. Crafted from chrome-plated metal and a cylindrical fabric shade. It features an elegant structure with straight lines and architectural proportions, characteristic of the aesthetic language developed by Rizzo, where the combination of fine materials and high-gloss finishes defines a sophisticated and timeless style. A representative piece of 1970s Italian design. Willy Rizzo (1928–2013) was a renowned Italian photographer and designer, a leading figure in the Dolce Vita aesthetic. He began his career in Paris as a photographer and started working as a designer in 1966, when he created furniture for his own home in Rome. The success of these pieces among his friends and clients—including personalities such as Salvador Dalí and Brigitte Bardot—led him to found his own firm in 1968.His designs were characterized by a combination of geometric lines, elegance, and fine materials such as travertine, bronze, and steel, blending traditional craftsmanship with modernity. Influenced by figures such as Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, and Ruhlmann, he rejected mass production in favor of meticulously crafted, high-quality pieces. His furniture, associated with the refined luxury of 1960s Italy, has been exhibited at institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

WILLY RIZZO (Naples, 1928–Paris, 2013) for BD Lumínica. Table lamp, 1970s. Brass base, ceramic body. Metal finial housing the lamp socket. Includes shade. In very good condition, with some signs of wear consistent with its age, retaining all its structural integrity and free of cracks. Measurements: 50 x 45 x 45 cm. Created by designer Willy Rizzo, a key figure in understanding the glamour of 1970s interior design. The BD Lumínica model is a true reflection of his aesthetic, where geometric purity intertwines with the visual richness of fine materials, resulting in objects that are true works of functional and sculptural art. The lamp rests on a square brass base, accented with black details. This metal displays a natural patina that bears witness to the passage of decades, giving it an authentic and inimitable character. Resting atop this solid structure of straight lines is the design’s main and most striking element: an imposing spherical body made of antique glazed ceramic. This large central sphere features a rich, textured pattern that blends deep shades of green and black, creating a visual effect clearly inspired by nature. The piece culminates at the top with a gold-finished metal cap that houses the socket.

WILLY RIZZO (Naples, 1928 – Paris, 2013). Coffee table; Italy, ca. 1970. Designed for Luminica. Chrome-plated metal and glass. Measurements: 76 x 74 x 36 cm. This coffee table by Willy Rizzo is part of the tradition of Italian design from the second half of the 20th century, characterized by the combination of industrial materials and refined finishes. The geometric structure, with its straight lines and orthogonal profiles, reflects a clear minimalist aesthetic. The table features a square-section metal frame, with alternating chrome and gold surfaces that create a subtle visual and textural hallmark. The transparency of the glass emphasizes the visual lightness of the piece, allowing the structure to be perceived as a three-dimensional drawing in space. A designer and photographer, Willy Rizzo began his career in Paris, where he has since built a solid reputation in the world of photography. His work as a designer began in 1966, when he moved with his wife into a small apartment in central Rome, which he renovated himself, also designing the furniture. WILLY RIZZO (Naples, 1928-Paris ,2013) for Cidue. Coffee table "Bar", 1970s. Wood, metal and mirror. In good general condition. Measurements: 35 x 130 x 80 cm; 200 (open length). In the early 1970s, Willy Rizzo developed for Cidue a series of coffee tables that integrate discreet functions, designed for modern interiors and changing uses. The "Bar" model, published by Cidue, has a chrome-plated metal structure with a mirrored smoked glass top. The sliding system reveals a central compartment lined with mirrors, designed to house glassware or objects. The whole is in very good original condition with some signs of the passage of time visible in the chrome plating. It shows the beginning of patina on the mercury mirrors, light and homogeneous. It has very fine and superficial scratches on the envelopes, consistent with age. Designer and photographer, Willy Rizzo began his career in Paris and since then has built a solid career in the world of photography. His activity as a designer began in 1966, when he moved with his wife to a small apartment in the center of Rome, which he renovated himself, also designing the furniture. Although his intention was never to become a designer, his friends soon began to commission him after seeing his house. In fact, he has counted among his clients such prominent figures as Salvador Dalí and Brigitte Bardot. In good general condition.

WILLY RIZZO (Naples, 1928-Paris ,2013). Desk "Scrivania", 1972. Chromed metal, walnut wood drawers and smoked glass. Signed and dated. Measurements: 75 x 151 x 70 cm. The geometric purity of its lines and the use of noble industrial materials respond to the aesthetics that characterized Rizzo's production in the field of furniture. Designer and photographer, Willy Rizzo began his career in Paris, and since then he has built a solid career in the world of photography. His activity as a designer began in 1966, when he moved with his wife to a small apartment in the center of Rome, which he renovated himself, also designing the furniture. Although his intention was never to become a designer, his friends soon began to commission him after seeing his house. In fact, he has counted among his clients such prominent figures as Salvador Dali and Brigitte Bardot. Rizzo always admired beautiful things, both modern and antique, so he focused his aesthetic experimentation on creating modern furniture that fit perfectly with the old. His style marked an era within Italian design, being recognized as the designer of the Dolce Vita. The demand for his pieces reached such magnitude that in 1968 he decided to create his own company, with which he has since created numerous pieces, always handmade, combining noble materials such as travertine or bronze with other distinctly modern ones such as steel. He eventually opened stores in Paris and other European cities, as well as in New York, Miami and Los Angeles. In 1978 Rizzo sold his company and refocused his career on photography, tired of the business life. During the ten years that he designed furniture, Rizzo, a great admirer of Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and Ruhlmann, developed a style that is easily recognizable even today. His are pieces of clean lines and geometric shapes, made of carefully selected materials. He always remained faithful to the traditional and artisanal use of materials, rejecting the mass production system and the use of plastic. Some of his designs have been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and more recently at the Madison Mallet Gallery in London.
