Bob Ross Art for Sale and Sold Prices

b. 1942 - d. 1995

Bob Ross was an American painter who became all but a household name through his television show, The Joy of Painting, in which he taught painting techniques to millions of viewers. His landscape paintings captured the serenity of the natural world through his use of the wet-on-wet, or “alla prima,” technique. Although he had a distinctive vision for his pieces, he encouraged his viewers to take creative risks and make each work of art their own.

Biography

“You can do anything you want. This is your world.”

Bob Ross

Bob Ross was an American painter whose television show, The Joy of Painting, brought him into many households. On The Joy of Painting, which aired for over a decade on PBS, Ross painted in real-time and shared his techniques with viewers. On air, Ross was most famous for his landscape paintings, such as this untitled composition depicting snow-capped mountains, pine trees, and a clear river.

Ross was as skilled in the art of replication as he was at the art of creation. His perfectionism led to three identical versions of many Bob Ross paintings: one original for reference, one painted live on TV, and a further version for instruction books. Finding his paintings on sale is rare since he donated many of his landscape and seascape paintings to public television stations.
