This lot contains five lots of framed artwork from artists such as: Jose D. Roybal (Tewa, 1922-1978), after Johan Carl Bodmer (Swiss-French, 1809-1893), Robert H. Annesley (Cherokee, 1943-2018), and Daniel Long Soldier (Lakota, b. 1949). Long Soldier and Annesley's works are the only two that are pencil signed. Paperwork/Provenance: N/A Condition: The smaller Roybal print sits loosely in its frame, and the larger has a few creases. Bodmer's shows signs of toning. Annesley's also sits loosely in its frame. Roybal (1922-1978), whose first name was José, and whose Tewa name was Oquwa (Rain God), was a well-known painter from San Ildefonso Pueblo. He was born on November 7, 1922 at San Ildefonso, the son of Tonita and Juan Cruz Roybal. He passed away June 28, 1978. He was a nephew of Alfonso Roybal. He did a bit of painting in the 1930s but was not very productive until the 1950s. He was most productive in the 1960-1970 decade. His most popular subject matter was his rendition of the Tewa Clowns known as Koshare or Koosa. Often he presented them in a jovial manner. He used water-based paints throughout his career. His excellent detail in small paintings never went unnoticed. This Southwest silk screen print to paper is after Jose D. Roybal's illustration. Roybal (1922-1978) was a Native American artist from New Mexico. His Tewa name was "Oquwa" which means "Rain God." He produced art from the 1930s onward, with some of his most noted work produced from 1955 to 1970. He was particulare noted for his renditions of Tewa clowns known as Koshares. He was an important Pueblo artist and won natuional awards.

Roybal (1922-1978), whose first name was José, and whose Tewa name was Oquwa (Rain God), was a well-known painter from San Ildefonso Pueblo. He did a bit of painting in the 1930s but was not very productive until the 1950s. He was most productive in the 1960-1970 decade. His most popular subject matter was his rendition of the Tewa Clowns known as Koshare or Koosa. Often he presented them in a jovial manner. His excellent detail in small paintings never went unnoticed. In his work there prevails fine color, excellent detail, small and fine outlines, gesturing figures, and a pleasing combination of heavy conventional themes with realistic subjects.
