Henry George Rushbury was born at Harborne, Birmingham, and attended Birmingham School of Art where he studied mural painting and stained glass. For two years he was assistant to Henry Payne and worked on decorations for Madresfield Court, Worcestershire, before moving to London in 1912. He later studied briefly at the Slade School of Fine Art under Henry Tonks. His work is held in the Tate Gallery, in the Royal Academy Collection as well as in the British Museum.
