Russell Pinxt., New York, 1857" verso, with hand-written index card identifying couple separated from frame but included, small puncture LC, black lighting reveals retouching around figure's right shoulder, elbow as well as cravat and shirt front, isolated paint flaking, craquelure, frame with minor scattered loss, ss: 29" h. at highest point x 24 1/8" w., neither examined out of matching painted frames which appear to be partial inner liners from original larger frames.

Watercolor on ivory, oval portrait, 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 in., in an engraved, chased, and engine-turned gilt-brass locket engraved with the name "Annie" with a plaited lock of brown hair in a small oval aperture on the back. Condition: Very good, the locket has a split on the opening device.
