Gunter Sachs Biography

The son of an industrialist, Gunter Sachs became known in the 1960s and 1970s primarily by his extroverted lifestyle and numerous liaisons. His diverse interests brought him not only to photography, but also to the documentary film, to art collecting, astrology and bobbing. Sachs, among others married with Brigitte Bardot, opened a gallery in Hamburg in 1972, where he showed works by Andy Warhol, his close friend.
In 1974, he was the official photographer of the Cologne 'Photokina', the most important international trade fair for photography. He began exhibiting his work internationally. In photography, Gunter Sachs focused on surreal nudes and landscapes. These have been published in several art books. He also dealt with the possibilities of digital photography from an early stage of his career. Sachs' work has been shown in over 40 exhibitions worldwide, including Hamburg, St. Petersburg, Leipzig, Moscow and Baden-Baden. Today, they achieve top prices at auctions worldwide.
