    Adolf Ferdinand Schinnerer,  Haymaking

    Est: £300 - £500

Adolf Ferdinand Schinnerer,  German 1876-1949-  Haymaking;  oil on canvas, signed 'A Schinnerer' (lower left), 29.5 x 37.7 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  Schinnerer taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where his students included Karl Gatermann the Younger (1909-1992). Schinnerer's work very much exhibits a debt to the Blue Rider group which developed in Munich in the early 20th century, whose key members included Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) and Franz Marc (1880-1916), here shown particularly in the work's sharp contrast of bright blues and yellows to delineate the curving forms of figures and landscape.

Idyllically embedded in the centre is a wide plain with stepped horizon lines that suggest depth. The detailed realisation of the grass in the foreground through to the delicate tree structures lends the picture a delicate texture. Delicate handwriting in the upper part of the picture conveys a personal touch and creates a thematic reference to a celebration. The sheet comes from a collection of other works by Adolf Schinnerer, some of which are signed. Keywords: Easter; greeting card; landscape; trees; vastness; horizon; handwriting; drawing; nature; idyll; grass; delicacy; texture; scenery; lowland; personal; theme; festivity; vintage; art, 20th century, Realism, Landscape, Germany,
