Adolf Gustav Schlabitz (1854-1943) Born in Silesia, the artists visited the Academy of Arts in Berlin from the age of 21 onwards and studied there until 1882. With the help of a scholarship, Schlabitz was able to study at the Académie Julien in Paris in 1883, his teachers there being Jules-Joseph Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. In addition to this, he traveled through Europe and the USA. In 1887 he returned to Berlin and was teacher at the Royal Academic College of Fine Arts from 1908-17. His students included among others Lyonel Feininger, Ernst Kolbe and Ernst Lübbert. As of 1921 Schlabitz used the Brantnerhäusl with land in Brixlegg, which he had acquired as holiday home in 1901, as permanent residence. He was a member of the Preußischen Akademie der Künste, in the Berliner Kunstverein and the Verein Berliner Künstler. His works can be seen today among others at the National Gallery in Berlin, the Kunsthalle Bremen and at the Museum in Wroclaw.
